A daily devotional book is something that can assist us in prayer and reflection as we try to take hold of faith in the midst of our busy world. As we wake up early in the morning, we can take a quick peek at a reading that can inspire us throughout the day. In the evening, we can meditate upon words of comfort that can help us surrender in trust, assured of God’s consoling grace.
Throughout all these years that I have been blogging and writing, I have benefited from daily devotionals and have even found God’s guidance through them. And it is no wonder that one of the fruits of my reliance upon them is also to write a devotional that could keep my most intimate thoughts in times when I was undergoing difficult times.
366 Days of Compassion is such a daily devotional that documents those times expressed through various reflections and prayers. It contains Bible verses that I have found worth remembering and relevant for each topic. It also contains poems I have written to express many of the thoughts and feelings I’ve found easier to convey through poetry. I guess it is almost like a diary or a journal that I want to preserve and read over and over as I recall the lessons I’ve learned as well as the comfort I have received from God.
This is the same comfort I wanted to share with people who are also struggling like me. I want them to find the answers when there seems to be none. I want them to see that they have a Friend in Him who understands our deepest hurts.
God’s grace is ever new and abounding, His mercy is infinite and His love is true. We need to be reminded of these things everyday so as not to lose the spiritual battle going on in the midst of us.
In the end, it is His Compassion that heals us all. There at the cross, we see all pain and darkness conquered in such a way that it is defeated forever. Not by disregarding it. Not by denying it. But by giving value even to our tears. By loving everything about us, including our very worst hurts.
The deepest wounds of the soul are healed only by compassion… People do not merely need to be clothed, they need to be embraced with love. A love that enters into their own fears and frailty, a love that suffers with them and stays with them through their darkest hour. (366 Days of Compassion)
