It is said that when we get to heaven, God will give us a new name, a name that no one will know except the one who receives it.
Have you ever wondered what your new name would be?
How wonderful to think that in heaven, as we all get a new life, we’d also get a new and special name coming from God Himself. It is the name by which He knows us, and it would be a name that we’d always treasure in our hearts.
Today’s post is about that name. I hope that by reflecting upon it, we may better know God’s tender love upon us all.
That Secret Part of You Deserves a Name
There will always be that secret part of you, that part that others may never know.
Your friends may spend years in your company and not learn about it. Your parents may hardly have a clue. Even your most intimate loved one may have no idea that it exists. But it does. It exists somewhere deep within you. That hidden part that no one sees.
Have you ever experienced people suddenly being surprised about you?
Once in a while, someone says you’ve changed a lot, and another comments you did something quite unexpected of you. But you weren’t surprised at all. You know that you’ve always been that person capable of doing such a thing. They just didn’t know you’ve got it in you all along.
There’s a whole universe within each person that cannot be entirely known by another.
And though once in a while, someone may have more glimpses into your inner world, you know that there is so much more that hasn’t been revealed.
Sometimes it feels good because it helps you see just how wonderfully you have been made. You know that you’re not someone who can just be tagged into stereotypes. Your inner being is so vast that it can never be measured by anyone.
Sometimes, however, it can feel lonely, too. You want others to know you more. And you don’t want to be judged by the few moments they have seen you.
But that’s just what happens every now and then. When people talk about you as though they know you but you know that they don’t. When people cast you away because they think they have already measured your heart and soul.
It hurts even more when it comes from the people who are closest to you. Why couldn’t they possibly understand? How could they say such things?
Ah, but that’s just how it is. No person could ever know you as well as you know yourself. And you could never know yourself as much as God knows you.
We were not meant to always be alone and misunderstood.
There is One who sees us, One who knows us. He looks at us and loves us for who we truly are. And one day, if you do not lose faith, you also will know how He sees you. He will give you a new name, and you will understand just how much you are known and loved.
“Even among the sisters you will feel lonely. Know then that I want you to unite yourself more closely to Me. I am concerned about every beat of your heart. Every stirring of your love is reflected in My Heart. I thirst for your love. ‘Yes, O Jesus, but my heart would not be able to live without You, either; for even if the hearts of all creatures were offered to me, they would not satisfy the depths of my heart.’” — Divine Mercy In My Soul, 1542
“To him who overcomes, to him I will give of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows but he who receives it.” — Revelation 2:17, WEBBE
No One Like You
“Your place in heaven will seem to be made for you and you alone, because you were made for it - made for it stitch by stitch as a glove is made for a hand.” - C.S. Lewis
No person can ever be replaced. Not even the smartest nor the most beautiful person in the world can ever match the essence of who you are. You are here because God willed you to be, because no one in the whole universe can ever substitute for the likes of you!
And that is why each day that you are in this world is a treasure. For none can ever put back the hours that you walked upon this life.
You may have failed to notice it, for you thought all that you ever did were simple things. Nothing extraordinary, it seemed.
Yet how could the days you spend not be special? How could each breath you take not be more precious than gold?
This present time that you are here is that special time when people can see you dance, can hear laugh, can watch you walk, can listen to what's going on within your beautiful soul.
No one else is just like you. Be who you really are!
"Before I formed you in the belly, I knew you. Before you came forth out of the womb, I sanctified you." - Jeremiah 1, WEB
You Are Special
We all want to be special in one way or another. It is not enough that we are taken care of, we must be seen. It is not enough that we are loved, we must be known and loved for who we really are.
In our desire to be special, however, we try to imitate those who are well admired. We do all we can to be just like them, and along the way, we forget our own uniqueness and beauty.
God has given to each one a special beauty that only he or she can exude. We need not be dismayed that we are not like the ones people praise. In order to shine, we should only be true to who we really are.
We learn to love each other when we begin to realize how truly unique and wonderful we are. Like seashells along the shore, no one is entirely alike, each is crafted with an imprint of God’s hand, each one different and special, each one valuable and loved!
Where I Fit In
I can’t help it at times, if I trip when I walk
Or I sing some notes out of tune.
I am not like ones you’ve seen
on movie scenes –
Lovely, witty and sweet.
I am not the shy underdog
with a heart of gold,
or that daring adventurous girl
full of charm.
I fall short trying to fit in,
where I cannot fit in,
trying to be beautiful,
trying to be good.
I look at me
and I cannot see
what He sees,
how someone could love
the likes of me.
But as I look into His eyes
all I know
is that I am loved,
every bit of me – loved.
And I fall for Him,
fearfully yet joyfully,
I fall…
I let myself surrender all –
my hurts, my doubts,
my anger, my insecurities.
And they all vanish
at the sight of Him.
I am moved,
I am thrilled,
I am healed,
every bit of me –
accepted and made whole.
Without even trying to,
He changes me.
Into His own likeness,
He fashions me.
And I sink deeper
into His affections,
where I lose myself
without truly being lost,
where I discover another me,
the one I’ve always
been meant to be!
And it doesn’t matter anymore
that I could never fit in
anywhere else,
for there I’ve found my place,
for there I’ve found myself,
the one He sees,
the one He truly loves!
“Don’t be afraid, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name. You are mine.” - Isaiah 43, WEBBE
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name.” - Psalm 147:3-4
-When you feel broken
-You are God’s beloved
-You can trust His wounded heart
-When God looks at you
-When you look at Jesus
-To forgive and to let go
-Will you ever smile again?
