Because Life Is Short, Time Is Precious and Tomorrow Is Never Guaranteed
What are you doing with your life today?
Sometimes, it’s just so hard to balance trying to earn a living and trying to make the most of the life given you.
You know you definitely need the money, and you even want to save some for the future. But time goes by so fast that you just can’t do enough for the day.
At the same time, you also want to spend some precious moments with your loved ones. You want to take that quiet morning walk with them, or maybe have a delightful breakfast.
When it’s summer and it finally rains, you want to take some time to simply be in the moment. You want to savor the cooler air and maybe chat a little with those close to you. And how about eating some ice cream with the kids?
How hard is it to live a simple life?
While many people proclaim we don’t need as much money to do so, the truth is that we need enough to take those little breaks instead of always going about earning a living.
And we should remember that we’re “earning a living”. We earn so that we can live a little more.
If we couldn’t even do that, then what’s the point of all our hard work?
We’re here not merely to survive, but to experience what it truly means to be human.
Being human requires that we become more than productive machines.
It means doing some idle things and some silly things. It means being able to gaze at the beauty of a sunset once in a while, wondering about what all that beauty means.
We need to sing a song now and then even if we’re a bit off-key. We need to dance even if we’re a little stiff.
Time is truly precious.
We can either use it to earn money or live the life that we desire. If only we could do both!
How rich should a person be to live that simple life? I know that many well-off people become even more busy trying to secure their wealth. When will they ever stop?
Could we ever stop?
One day, unknown to us all, we shall have our very last day on earth.
What could we be doing then?
Would we be so busy that we could hardly look heavenward? Or would we be able to spend some time with our loved ones and cast one final glimpse at them before we say goodbye?
“A man should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day of his life, in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful which God has implanted in the human soul.”
― Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
“This is the day that the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
-Psalm 118:24 (NRSVCE)
