I have previously written two posts where I shared a total of 12 Catholic publications accepting posts from freelance writers. These are websites that pay you for sharing an original Catholic article. In case you missed any of these posts, you can view them at our Writer’s Resources.
Today, I’m going to share another way to earn from publications for your Catholic articles.
Unlike the previous websites, however, that pay you a certain amount per article accepted, the ones below would pay you according to the number of views received by your article.
Here are some publications where your Catholic articles can earn money based on the number of views they receive:
1. Patheos
Patheos is not exclusive to Catholic writers. It is a website that includes writers from different religious beliefs.
But they do have a space for you to be a Catholic columnist. You can apply on their publication and after signing a contract, you can start writing Catholic articles there.
If you want to see a sample of that, you can take a look at my Catholic column on Patheos titled “Beloved”.
Depending on the terms you would agree upon, they may require you to write about one or two articles per week. It is up to you to share the link to your posts where they can receive more exposure such as your social media accounts on Facebook or Twitter.
What I like about Patheos is that my articles there have a high chance of being discovered by the organic traffic from their website. They also have a good chance of ranking well in search engines like Google.
If you also want to writer on Patheos, see their “Write for Us” page.
2. Catholic365
Catholic365 is another publication where you can submit your articles and get paid for them for the number of views they receive.
Unlike Patheos, this is purely for Catholic writers only.
According to their website, “Earning amounts are not guaranteed, but you'll receive revenue based on the number of unique readers your articles get.”
I have not yet tried this one, but you may want to check it out through their “Write for Catholic365.com” page.
By joining their publication, you gain additional exposure and traffic for your posts as well as promote your other works by linking to them.
Note: For the above two publications, be sure to prepare your writing samples. If you have articles written on other websites, you can also link to them.
3. Medium
Other writers on Substack may also be familiar with Medium. This is a platform for writers on various topics where you can also earn based on the number of views of your articles.
The difference here is that you only get paid for views from Medium members.
With Medium also, there is no formal contract requiring you to write a certain number of articles per week. It is up to you to decide when you would like to write a new article. Of course, the more you write, the more traffic your article can receive.
(Note: You have to have a Stripe account in an eligible country to receive payment from Medium.)
Before you start earning from your articles, you first need to apply to the Medium Partner Program. You can apply if you satisfy the following requirements:
- You should be a Medium member
- You must have published a story within the last 6 months
- You must be located (and file taxes) in an eligible country
- You should be at least 18 years old
You may also want to see their Frequently Asked Questions page before you join.
If you want to see my posts on Medium, you can visit “The Catholic Refuge”.
In addition to the freedom I have when it comes to writing, another thing I like about Medium is that its pages usually rank well on search engines. Even if I don’t get as many views from Medium members, I can make my page available to non-members and benefit from the exposure my post receives. By including a link of my books in my articles, more people can see and buy them.
Some reminders
Please feel free to ask the above websites if you have other questions in mind before joining them.
Consider the time you have available and whether not you can commit to writing the required number of posts for these sites.
Determine also how and when you can get paid e.g. Stripe, PayPal, etc.
Read their updated guidelines so that your posts adhere to the format and standards they set.
Bonus tip:
Instead of writing for these publications, you can also write for your own blog or website and apply for Google Adsense!
That way, you can earn more from your posts as you receive more traffic for your site. You also own and control everything, including the type and format of your posts and the frequency of your writing.
What you need to consider here is the cost of setting up and maintaining your site as well as ranking well in search engines. It also helps if you have a lot of followers on social media.
As a paid subscriber, you have full access to our Writer’s Resources.
However, if you wish to stop receiving emails about our Writer’s Section, simply “turn off” the notification settings for Writer’s Section at your account page. Click here. (Don’t worry because by doing so, you will only stop receiving topics about writing and you will still receive other emails from Single Catholic Writer).
