The real reason for the growing demand for exorcisms today
The Saint Michael Center for Spiritual Liberation and Exorcism, the first of its kind in Asia (if not the world) will soon rise in the Philippines.
According to an article from the Inquirer, the center is a response to the increasing number of exorcism cases that the Archdiocese of Manila Office on Exorcism (AMOE) is receiving.
Even around the world, cases of demonic possessions have risen. As early as 2018, BBC reported priests from 50 countries around the world attending an exorcism course from the Vatican.
Why the Growing Demand for Exorcists?
The increase in the number of demonic possessions requiring a proportionate increase in exorcists should urge us to think about the current spiritual condition of the world.
Why has there been such a dramatic rise in exorcism cases in the past number of years? What could be causing this kind of spiritual attack in recent times?
Could it be because the world is rapidly losing its faith in God? Is it because of the increasing number of people who become involved in occult activities?
The Attack on Faith
There can be no doubt that there continues to be a decline among those who profess the Christian faith. More and more people admit that they no longer believe in God. Some even express hatred for such a belief.
Meanwhile, the spiritual vacuum created by this lack of belief in the Christian God has caused many to seek it through other means. Many have been involved in New Age practices and beliefs. Witchcraft, energy healing and divination are no longer rare practices performed in the dark but carried out in the open, even over the internet.
We now live at a time that denies the existence of evil spirits but at the same time makes itself vulnerable to demonic possession by dangerous spiritual practices. Even sin is no longer recognized as something that damages the soul.
It is no wonder then that evil seems to be gaining more power among those who make themselves most open to its influence.
The Spiritual Battle
The battle today is not just within the sphere of politics or economics. It is not even just within the confines of scientific knowledge.
If we fail to recognize the spiritual battle going on, we’d fail not only to protect ourselves from spiritual harm, but we’d see a world that can only grow more chaotic and violent with each coming day.
Evil disguises itself through various means. It can try to manipulate the world into thinking it no longer exists. It can also disguise itself as a harmless spiritual force that can be beneficial for those who would surrender to its power.
The only protection is true faith in Jesus Christ, the One in whom salvation is to be found. He alone can guide us to the Truth and keep us away from deception. He alone can satisfy the deepest spiritual longings of the human soul.
“Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.” - Ephesians 6:11-13, NRSVCE
