Goodness inspires. An encounter with a person who has shown us an authentic gesture of kindness, courage, patience or mercy invokes within us something that moves us to do the same. True goodness leaves a scent that lingers long after it has done its work. In truth, its work never ends, for it is passed on to hearts that carry on its light.
One cannot invent goodness. An attempt to show goodness on the outside without a corresponding goodness within can never have the same effect.
Genuine goodness does not need an elaborate script to convey its message. Even the simplest words find their way to change the heart. It is like a living power that plants a seed wherever it goes, waiting for the right time to blossom and bear fruit.
If we truly wish to change the world for good, we need not dwell in worry. Rather than be overwhelmed with forces often beyond our control, we need to focus first on the important things.
Start by being good. And if you think you cannot be good, then go to God and let your encounter with His goodness change the very core of your being.
Trust me. You will no longer be the same.
And when His goodness has finally found its way towards you, it will naturally yearn to overflow towards other hearts and souls.
Countless people who meet you will benefit from the unspeakable warmth coming from your soul. You will be like a candle from which many may find light in this dark world.
Stay with God and stay good. That is how you can start to change the world.
”Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.”
- St. Catherine of Siena
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.”
- Matthew 5:14-16 (NABRE)
So beautiful.
