To Endure the Present We Must Look at Eternity
When Enduring Difficult Times
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in their hearts…” - Ecclesiastes 3:11, WEBBE
Today, whatever you may be going through, try to see things in the light of eternity and of God’s love.
In the light of eternity, all your troubles are passing away. All your tears will soon be wiped away. In the light of eternity, all our sufferings are short and would soon give way to joy, a joy that never ends.
This is not yet our home, because our home is in heaven. But here, while on our journey, we can still find comfort in each other’s company. Here, we can be friends. We can fight the battles that would yield for us eternal rewards. Here below, we can show how deeply we can love. We can love without looking for anything in return. We can love silently, patiently, wholeheartedly. We can love amidst all pain. We love beyond all our temporary trials.
So whatever may happen today, think about the eternal days God can bestow upon you. Think about that time when you can recover even more than what you have lost. Think and imagine looking back to your present. Though it’s hard and it’s lonely, there is never a time when you’re not covered by the love of God. Love is the only thing that will remain, and love will prove itself victorious above all.
“Let nothing disturb you,
Let nothing frighten you,
All things are passing away:
God never changes.
Patience obtains all things.
Whoever has God lacks nothing;
God alone suffices.”
― St. Teresa of Avila
Our Time Is Short
Consider the shortness of time, the length of eternity, and reflect how everything here below comes to an end and passes by. - Gerard Majella
Our destiny is the possession of God and eternal life- to live in that abode from which all evil is absent and Where we enjoy a multitude and abundance of every good, a place which is commonly called Heaven. - Fr. Charles Arminjon
...only with the Infinite could my desires be satisfied, because the world and all that's in it is limited; whereas, by belonging to God, my soul would never tire of loving and contemplating Him, because in Him the horizons are infinite. - St. Teresa of Jesus of the Andes
“One life is all we have and we live it as we believe in living it. But to sacrifice what you are and to live without belief, that is a fate more terrible than dying.”
-St. Joan of Arc
Time Is Always Short
Time here below
is always short
it will never
be long enough.
Long enough to laugh,
long enough to dance,
long enough to touch,
long enough to love.
No matter how long
no matter how well lived,
a lifetime will always
be not enough.
It isn't enough,
it never will be,
for the human soul,
for the human heart.
For there is something
in our spirit
that longs for more,
infinitely more.
We long
for something
that knows no limits,
that knows no end.
And maybe even that
is a clue
in knowing who
we really are.
We were not meant
to be bound by the limits of time
We were not meant
to die.
For everything here below
will fall short
of the glory and bliss
that only heaven can provide.
It Is Not The End
“For I know the thoughts that I think towards you,” says the LORD, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.” - Jeremiah 29:11, WEBBE
Do not worry if you cannot see how things can turn out well. It is not for us to take care of everything, it is sufficient for us to trust.
Trust though you can't see. Trust though you can't understand. Trust even if all you could see is darkness and uncertainty. You are not trusting in what you can see or understand, but upon God whose wisdom is invisible and whose power is beyond our comprehension.
There is a future for you, an eternal one. Even if this life would fail terribly in making your dreams come true, all is not yet the end.
Always have that hope within you, for you are after all, a child of eternity. This life is too short for you. This world is too small.
God has prepared for you a beautiful life, an eternal life. Your future is safe with Him and in Him, all your greatest desires will come true!
What Satan does not let you see is eternity, which comes after. He obscures your view, so that you see solely this world; he does not speak to you of God but of a half god. He has deceived you. - Chiara Corbella Petrillo, A Witness to Joy
“Everything in this world will pass away. In eternity only Love will remain.” -Pope Benedict XVI
