When You Need to Take Those Painful Steps
Not every right step to take would be easy. Many of them will be difficult, even painful.
Some people may tell you that you only need to hang on and to move forward. But that’s way easier said than done. There are many days when you could barely stand your ground and where every step that you need to make is painful.
And so each step matters. Each painful step counts. Because it represents your courage and your firm resolve. It costs you every ounce of your remaining faith. It symbolizes how you’re clinging to what little hope and light that you have left within you.
I feel that such had also been every step of Jesus while walking towards His crucifixion. Every step had been difficult, so difficult that Simon even had to step in to help Him carry His cross. Didn’t He also fall three times?
Tired, thirsty, wounded and bearing a heavy cross, Jesus needed to make one painful step at a time.
He knows what we’re going through. He took the painful path first and He goes with us in every painful step that we ever need to make today.
“He had…no beauty to draw us to him.
He was spurned and avoided by men,
a man of suffering, knowing pain…”
- Isaiah 53:2–3, NABRE
