There are times when we can suddenly start to feel alone. It could be in the middle of the night when everyone’s asleep. Or it could be during the busy hours of the day when you just wanted to have a quiet chat with someone and nobody’s available.
Single people may be more vulnerable to this feeling, though we could never discount the fact that even married ones may have similar moments. This is especially true whenever misunderstandings with your loved ones arise. All of a sudden, you may feel neglected and lonely. You wanted to be heard but no one seems to care.
What do you do when you start to feel alone?
Based on my experience, I think it’s best that you pray. Admit your feelings, cry your heart out and talk to God. While at first you may not feel anything, just bask in the silence and lift up your heart in prayer.
God is always there. He is with us even when we do not see Him. He cares for us more than we’d ever know.
That’s the beauty of faith. With faith, we’re always connected to Someone who can assure us that we’re never truly alone.
With our Catholic faith, we are even introduced to a larger family, a family of brothers and sisters in Christ. I’ve realized this one day while attending mass. Looking around, a thought came to me that everyone around me is indeed a spiritual brother or sister. Wherever I may be in the world, God has provided me with people to whom I can belong to.
Aside from that, there is the invisible realm. This spiritual world where the angels and saints dwell.
At any time during the day, I can talk to my guardian angel. I can pray with the saints who can lift up my prayers to God. I can even approach the Virgin Mary, my Mother. I can go to her with all the hurts I have in my heart.
“Besides this earth, and besides the race of men, there is an invisible world and a kingdom of spirits: that world is round us, for it is everywhere; and those spirits watch us, for they are commissioned to guard us…” – Helen Burns (Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë )
“If you ever feel distressed during your day — call upon our Lady — just say this simple prayer: Mary, Mother of Jesus, please be a mother to me now. I must admit — this prayer has never failed me.” - Mother Teresa
Never think you’re alone. You are not an orphan.
God is not a lonely God. He is Love Himself. And wherever there is God, you will find that you are loved.
“Don't be afraid,” Elisha answered. “We have more on our side than they have on theirs.” Then he prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” The Lord answered his prayer, and Elisha's servant looked up and saw the hillside covered with horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
