Why does God hide His face away from us?

We’ve had moments when we felt God was so close to us,
We believed then with all our hearts,
We were enraptured in bliss,
We’ve finally found the answer to our questions…
We were content, and we asked for nothing more.

But then comes the time
when God hides His face away from us.
Once more, we are alone.
Once more, we feel empty and lost.

Why does God hide His face away?

Because He wants us to remember that our joy could only be found in Him.

We can have all the material wealth a man could ever want,
and all the relationships a person could ever desire,
but without God, we have no true joy.

Some people in this world may boast that they are happy.
But quite often, it’s the kind of happiness that cannot last.
How could it last
if it depends on other things but God?

May we never despair when God hides His face for a while,
for it is to our own good that God does what He does.
For even if we do not see Him,
we know that He is there,
and our faith is strengthened more and more
as we continue to hope
as we continue to wait…
and one day, we believe
we can see God’s face again.
