Writing Ideas for Rainy Days
6 Simple Tips to Perk Up Your Writing
Writer’s block can come in many ways. It can also come in times just when we really need to finish an article for a blog, a publication or our own website. In my post, “The Lazy Way to Generate Unlimited Writing Ideas Today”, I’ve mentioned tools that can suggest various titles and ideas in times when we can’t think of anything to write about.
In this post, I’m going to suggest more ways to help eliminate writers block.
Here are some things you can do to perk up your writing today:
1. Recycle your old posts
This is not to suggest in any way that you copy your previous articles. To recycle them, you can find an old idea that you can write something new about. You can try to see things from another perspective. You can also think about it like a series. You can write additional information that can strengthen your old posts.
2. Feature a list of your old articles
This is similar to number one, but it differs in such a way that you have to make a list of your old articles this time. Find something common about them, then write a piece about that theme.
3. Feature the work of other writers
Remember that it is necessary to give respect to the work of other writers. You must also seek their permission as well as their comment after reviewing your article. If you can do this and write something fresh and useful, you would give due honor to the writer you have featured in your post. They may also invite you to write in their own publication or share your piece with their social media followers.
4. Comment on a movie or music video
There is nothing like a movie or a new song to inspire us. We can share our review and even help other people appreciate the things we liked or learned. YouTube has so many accessible music videos that can stimulate our feelings and imagination. You can also listen to the latest songs on Spotify. Movies are available on Netflix, iTunes and Google Play.
5. Comment on a book
You don’t even need to read a new book. There must be an old book that taught you lessons you could never forget. Write your review and share the wisdom you have gained to your readers.
6. Make use of writing prompts
Writing prompts are tools that writers can use to as a starting point in generating writing ideas. They can give you topics to write about. You don’t necessarily have to follow the suggested subjects. You can simply read them until you come up with your own ideas. Reedsy has various writing prompts you can use. They even offer a weekly contest for those who would participate in writing using their writing prompts.
