This is for those doors that God helped you to close. Most of us certainly have one or more; those doors behind us, those doors that open wide to a place we should never go again.
Why must we think of them from time to time? Why think that we must regret closing them?
Before closing them, we struggled so hard. Our hearts were broken and we were torn apart.
There was something beyond those doors that kept us, that made us long to dwell although we were never meant to be there.
But by God’s grace, we were able to overcome our struggles. Our hesitation has turned into a firm resolve. And we were able to close those doors at last.
What are those doors?
For some people, it could mean the doorway to an old habit, something that seemed harmless at first but gradually kept one apart from God.
These can also be temptations or real sins. A lifestyle spent lost and miserable, wallowing in pleasures but ever agonizing also in pain.
Still for some, those doors could mean heartbreaks. People who abused them or hurt them, people who haven’t even changed since that time you turned away.
Those doors can also be paths that we have chosen to let go long ago. Careers that no longer served us, ambitions that kept us from growing close to God, other preoccupations that kept us too busy to nourish our relationships with those we love the most.
Should we return to them too? Must we always keep looking back?
Remember the very reason they were locked. Recall how much you struggled just to turn away.
Do not go back! Do not let your curiosities take away the blessings you have today.
Let the screams behind those doors quiet down on their own. And let the invitation of a brighter future be your guide.
The Lord has led you thus far. He locked those doors for you. And He opens new ones so that you can proceed with hope, peace and joy in your heart. Take His hand and never go back!
