In my previous post “When God Called Me To Be a Writer”, I wrote about my experience after I decided to leave my Accounting and Audit career.
It was not an easy journey. There were times when I wanted to turn back. And there were so many times when I asked myself whether I was doing the right thing.
Through it all, what sustained me was the conviction that I was doing something valuable, something that God has planned all along for me.
You see, we do not always end up where we thought we should be. A person who envisioned being a doctor can end up being a chef. A woman who dreamed of being a wife could be called to enter religious life.
As for me, I’m currently single and in my late forties.
I don’t feel called to married life or religious life. But I can honestly say that I have this sense of peace within me. And I feel happy that God has entrusted me with the vocation of writing for my faith. Yes, of writing about Him and of His Love for all of us.
Being single, I have no husband to rely on. Neither do I have a religious community that could help me with my needs. Thankfully, God has sustained me and has proven to be my Provider and Friend through it all.
Would you like to take a peek at how I currently support myself by sharing my faith?
Here are some of my current sources of income as a single Catholic writer:
1. Freelance Writing
I submit articles from time to time to other websites that pay me per article published. Each website has a schedule for payout as well as guidelines for submission.
You can read more about it from my posts below:
2. Book sales
I have written books about various topics including grief, relationships and self-improvement. Most of my books though are centered on my Catholic faith. I sell them online through Amazon and other digital stores. Here are some of my published books:
Of Waves and Butterflies: Poems on Grief
The links to the above books are from Amazon. For other digital stores like Apple, Barnes & Noble, Kobo and more, here is the link.
3. Columnist earnings from Patheos
Patheos has accepted my application to be one of their columnists. I get paid depending on the number of views my articles receive.
You can read more about it from my previous post “Get Paid Per Number of Views on These Catholic Publications”.
Do come and visit my Patheos column titled “Beloved” to read my posts there!

If People Are Searching For God, Why Couldn’t They Find Him?
Have You Ever Wondered How Happy You Could Be In Heaven?
4. Google Ads
I earn from AdSense through my website and Android applications. They used to be my main source of income when I started to work as a freelancer, but it declined gradually through the years.

5. Substack subscription
Currently, my Substack blog “Single Catholic Writer” has more than 1,500 subscribers. I earn from a few paid ones, and I hope to make that number grow more.

6. YouTube Partner Program
I currently administer a Catholic YouTube channel that has 24,000 subscribers. It isn’t easy to grow your channel these days over a short period of time. But if you would like to do so, you need to start so you can make progress and qualify for the program.
If you want to visit our channel, you can subscribe to Missionaries of Christ.
Here is a devotional video from this channel:
I am also starting to grow another channel that focuses more on music. I create videos for hymns, Gregorian chants and instrumental music. You can also find some of my original songs as well as song covers.
You can visit She Who Prays Twice. Below is a sample video you can find there:
7. Medium Partner Program
Medium has a program that pays writers based on the number of views and engagement from Medium members. You have to read their updated list of guidelines to qualify.
If you want to know how much you can earn from it, let’s just say that I sometimes earn about $4 per article published if it has a good number of engaged viewers. Other people earn much higher rates.

8. Book Reviews and Beta Reading
From time to time, I also do book reviews and beta reading. I receive offers through e-mail and provide the final report per date agreed upon.
I may write an article about this later on so you can have an idea how much you can earn from it and where you can possibly find offers for book reviews and beta reading assignments.
Other sources of income
I used to provide my services as a social media content creator and manager for a Catholic website. This is also something you can do in case you need to augment your faith-based earnings.
Another source that I can still grow later on is my Redbubble store where I sell inspirational and religious merchandise. In relation to this, I’m thinking about opening a store also at Etsy.
Final thoughts
It’s not easy earning a full-time income by sharing my faith. But money isn’t always the only thing that can signify our success. Sometimes, what’s more important is the fulfillment we have knowing that we have done something valuable and lasting with the time given us.
Of course we still need to earn money for a decent life. We also need it so we can help other people and support the needs of the Church.
But just like what Mother Teresa used to say, the money will come.
We have to focus first on the most important things. We need to give utmost important to the will of God. For everything else that we may need, God knows and God will provide.
“But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” - Matthew 6:33 (NRSVCE)
